Abstract
This study provides a comparative analysis on factors affecting transition probability from school to good job of general and vocational high school graduates. The result of Kaplan-Meier analysis shows that the mean of transition period of school to good job is 17 months for vocational high school grauates and 57 months for general high school graduates, indicating that general high school graduates experience much more difficulty in the transition than vocational high school graduates. It is proven that the pattern of the transition is also different between the two groups, showing that the transition rate of vocational high school graduates is the highest within 3 months after graduation, while the rate of general high school graduates is low from even early stages after graduation. The results of Cox proportional hazards regression analysis founds that variables affecting the transition probability from school to good job are thoroughly differed by the types of high schools from which they graduated. For vocational high school graduates, variables such as gender, school record and work experience after graduation affect the transition probability, whereas variables such as work experience in school and unemployment rate affect for general high school graduates. These results suggest that in order to support fast transition from school to good job of high school graduates it is more effective to use different strategies based on the types of high schools rather than to apply the same strategies to all high school graduates.
